Judy Niewald is a native of Denver, Colorado, where she continues to reside. Her creative journey spans multiple mediums and decades of exploration.
Judy’s artistic interest emerged at an early age, beginning with drawing, batik, & pen and ink work. Over time, she evolved into a highly detailed oil painter, working in that medium for several years. While she valued the discipline and precision oils demanded, she found herself seeking greater freedom and spontaneity in her work. This led her to experiment with palette knives and watercolor. In 2024, Judy discovered encaustic painting and quickly found her artistic home. The combination of wax, heat, and unpredictability offered a balance between control and release that she had long been searching for. What began with a two-day encaustic workshop soon developed into a deep passion, one she intends to pursue for years to come.
From 2010 to 2024, Judy owned and operated a successful picture framing business, gaining extensive experience working closely with art and artists. Now semi-retired, she is turning her full attention toward creating and sharing her own work, embarking on a new chapter that blends craftsmanship, intuition, and personal expression.
You are invited to explore the gallery and experience the blend of her present work and past artistic passions.
